I was broke and insecure 5 years ago
September is a sentimental time for me.
5 years ago to the month, I was living in the spare room of my girlfriends uni flat.
I had just graduated into a pandemic. No job and just six months of living expenses left in my account. I was trying out this ‘entrepreneurship’ thing.
I gave myself an ultimatum:
Either make the business work, or go get a job.
That month I signed my first retainer client - £300/month to write LinkedIn content.
3 months later I hit my first £10,000 month.
Today, the business clears over £85,000 per month and has served more than 300 clients.
Now look, I’m by no means a genius.
I’ve got a lot to learn, still figuring things out and don’t have the perfect business.
But I’ve clearly made some good decisions over the last 5 years.
These 3 are the my biggest ‘life changers’.
Want to make an extra £85,000 a month?
Here are 3 things that I believe have had the biggest impact on myself on the journey to 7 figures:
1. Change Your Environment
Moving to a new city was the ultimate form of self development. Pure focus and accountability.
No friends, no distractions, and nothing to fall back on.
I grew more in six months than in the three years before.
If you can create a season of pure focus (through isolation, relocation, or restructuring your environment) you’ll accelerate your growth 10-fold.
Combine this with point 2 and you’re strides ahead of the competition.
2. Do What Others Won’t
Fact: I am more willing to endure hard things than my competitors.
Early on I’d send 300 Loom videos in a single week to sign clients. Hell, I’ll still do it now if it’s needed.
I’ll take late night calls and turn around a deck the next day if needed.
But nooo, other people want ‘work life balance’.
Get over yourself lol.
That willingness to endure and outlast separated me from the rest.
When it gets hard, that’s when you know the real work is beginning. Lean in because your competition are pivoting or folding.
Do what no one else will until you have the ability to do what no one else can.
3. Build Your Personal Brand
My personal brand changed my life.
Sure the 60 odd clients per year, hundreds of leads, millions of views, etc. is nice.
But my personal brand has served me on so many other levels.
It brought me opportunities I never could’ve engineered.
It gave me a network I simply should not have access to at this age.
It allowed me to get paid to travel the world and speak.
Even down to trivial things like box tickets at Wembley, Lords, etc.
Every piece of content you publish increases your “surface area for luck.”
There’s no better leverage in business than being known, liked, and trusted.
I spoke about each of these, as well as my one big regret from the last 5 years here:
